Stricter gun laws might make sense

Well, here it is---another mark for the gun ban argument.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/04/08/ny.shooting/index.html

This story along with the many other outbreaks happing throughout the United States are adding statistics to gun accessibility being a negative thing. If our average Joes do have guns, they're not using them against these shooters. And the guy in this story had 10,000 shots logged at his gun range.

I know that many people (especially teenagers) want to possess a gun, but what's really more likely to happen:

a) you use your gun to fend off a bad guy,

b) an accident occurs involving your gun (child or friend injured), or

c) you decide you're sick of it all and blast people.

Based on the news I've been reading, it seems the last two are more likely to happen for any gun owner. And as far as the general public is concerned, wouldn't stricter gun laws be the statistically wise choice to make?

Some may say that citizens have the right to bear arms. This is true, but back when that was written there were muskets, not automatic weapons. Furthermore, it's not likely that all the guns in local gun shops could pose any threat to today's military, if, as another dated right explains, we were forced to bear arms against the government.

Yes AB, we all know how warm, fuzzy and caring conservatives are for the masses. I tell you what...just for you, I'll try to work on being more sympathetic and caring to humanity. God bless you also.shall01 on May 13th, 2009 at 7:38 AM
"According to their tax returns, in 2006 and 2007, the Obamas gave 5.8 percent and 6.1 percent of their income to charity. ... The Bidens gave 0.15 percent and 0.31 percent of the income to charity.

Meanwhile, ... , George W. Bush ... , During his presidency, ... gave away more than 10 percent of his income each year.

For purposes of comparison, in 2005, Barack Obama made $1.7 million -- more than twice President Bush's 2005 income of $735,180 -- but they both gave about the same amount (of money) to charity.

That same year, the heartless Halliburton employee Vice President Dick Cheney gave 77 percent of his income to charity. The following year, in 2006, Bush gave more to charity than Obama on an income one-third smaller than Obama's"

I guess you are right "Shall.Oh.#.1.Zombie", "we all know how warm, fuzzy and caring conservatives are". And we now have great role models, Mr. "Oh.bomb.ah" and Mr. "Bid.my.time"! We all can see what caring people the new leaders are. They want to take from people to give to others, but they want to keep what they have. Excellent! They are your type of leaders.

Ryan, thank you for your thoughtful reply. Sometimes I have some difficulty understanding just what it is you're talking about, so I picked up a <Ryan the Great Translator> to help me better communicate with you. It's findings will be in bold.

Count: A few things
1. fuck you

fuck you

Thank you for the new sig =p

2. thank you for gracing us with your presence, I can tell you will be a warm fuzzy addition to our family on TAC.
you are such an asshole you make me look like a nice guy. please GTFO.

But it feels so good to be back.

3. if you agree with caligolfer chick, your as fucking stupid a person as she is, therefore I shall put you in my moron file, don't worry there are lots of people there, you will fit in nicely.
i can't actually refute anything you or caligolfer said, so i'm going to insult you with the best thing I can come up with (which i'll admit is still pretty bad). hopefully nobody will notice.

Your secret's safe with me ;)

4. you try to play yourself down the middle but your conservative side comes out. your no different than anyone else on this site, actually you are because everyone else on TAC doesnt make any bones about what they are.
you don't agree with me, therefore you must be a conservative. you are, right? please pick a side like everybody else...this is all starting to confuse me. oops i just cut myself on this tortilla chip.

You've inspired me to write a new article: “My Thoughts on the Left and Right” Look for it soon :)

I call out your bullshit. I don't give a shit what your views are you can say what you want like everyone else here, just don't pass yourself off as some kind of fucking enlightened person when it's clear your just another misguided fuck who has no idea what he is talking about.
when i was 6 i found this big box of industrial strength rat poison and ate as much of it as I could before going into convulsions. ever since then, forming logical thoughts has been very hard. after reading your entire post (several times) it's clear that i can't attack the argument itself so i'm just going to have to settle for insulting you. i'd love to attack your argument directly but i'm still learning how to tie my shoes :(

:(

5.I'm sure what I said was a shock but do not kill yourself, not that I or anyone else would give a shit because it's clear you have no substance and are a waste of humanity but I wouldn't want to have your death which will be as pathetic as your life on my conscience.
You have just been broken down by Ryan the Great.

Please kill yourself. no really please i'm begging you. i can't take much more of this. the second asshole you gave me hurts real bad and I don't know if I can handle having a third.
Oh man sorry about that :( At least now you'll never be lonely on a Friday night.

Correction: Mr. Parker had not fired the gun in 30 years, and cleaned the gun 10 years before it saved his life. Purchased for safety and it saved his life.

Gun bought 51 years ago, saves an 83 year Old Mans life.
www.sfgate.com
"Long-neglected revolver kills armed intruder in retiree's Hunters Point home."
Michael Moore, 49, a convicted felon. Broke into the home of A.D. Parker an 83 year old retiree. Moore, an armed burglar, broke into Mr. Parkers home, ran to the bedroom, carrying a large wrench and a crowbar. Mr.Parker was awakened by the noise and grabed his revolver, a revolver that he had perchased 51 years before. Mr. Parkers gun had only been fired a few times and had not been fired in 10 years.
"I never thought I would shoot that thing again," he said. "I never wanted to be a tough guy. But I guess I'm fortunate that gun still worked."
God Bless a gun that saves a life.

PEOPLE ASK WHY?

Why I Carry a Gun

My old grandpa said to me son,' there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'.

I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'.

Logic is very hard to use when it's accompanied by high emotion

I agree as cold as it sounds its very unwise to make decisions with the heart. Emotions will always cloud a person's judgment.

To me we need to get to the root of the problem and find out what drives people to kill one another. Gun control in my opinion in this country is getting out of hand. I do believ however that in order for gun control to work, we have to do a better job of getting the guns off the streets.

As noble as your intentions may be this is really an unrealistic goal. Just like the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (which banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol) failed to stop the use of alcohol, gun laws will never stop guns from falling into the wrong hands. In fact it became a spring board for organized crime making them more powerful. Gangster-owned speakeasies replaced the corner bar and mafia controlled liquor made gangsters rich. Currently drugs are illegal but there is no shortage of them on the street. With the ease of a phone call one can easily have drugs and/or a gun within an hour. So if they would that away my 2nd amendment rights do you think that all the guns would be gone? Only the honest people will surrender their guns and the bad guys will keep theirs. We can’t even secure our country’s borders against illegal aliens how can we prevent guns from crossing. Another thought is how many people’s lives will be affected in a negative way if guns were outlawed?
