Well, President BO has been in office for only a couple of weeks and already it is apparent that his lack of experience is stinking things up. No one can deny that he is an appealing orator. He speaks to the people's dreams and anxieties with remarkable skill which was his greatest asset as a candidiate. Now, unfortunately, he has to perform, and the fact that we promoted someone who literally has no management experience is already showing. His 19% approval rating drop is reflective of his stumbles to date. Closing Gitmo was a pure politcal move with no thought behind where we're going to put the bad guys. However his looney left constituency was thrilled. His interview on Arab TV was another good move. The Arab mentality loves signs of weakness. Amapajamas, the Iranian leader is already exploiting it by asking for our apologies. On the home front, his cabinet appointments have been breathtaking. Everyone seems to have made "honest mistakes" Our new treasury secretary uses Turbo Tax. Our attorney general was instrumental in pardons of the FALN terrorists, and Marc Rich, one of the FBI's most wanted. Bill Richardson, his pick for Commerce, and Clinton turn-coat had to drop out because he's being investigated. Two more who withdrew were former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle, who had been nominated for health and human services secretary, and Nancy Killefer, who was to be the federal spending watchdog as chief performance officer. (more honest mistakes) Now the Ass't Attorney General has a history of defendng the porn industry and other popular causes. How many mistakes can you make in a few weeks? Now he says the if we don't pass the pork riddened, one trillion $$ stimulous bill NOW -It will be a catastrophy and we'll never recover - Is that fear mongering or more on-the-job training? A little frightening that he would let Speaker Pelosi, the brain trust from San Francisco and who beleives that 500 million Americans will be out of work, design the solution. By the way. if Sarah Palin had made such a stupid statement, it would be on the front page of every newspaper. Speaking of change, he made a big deal of not hiring lobbyist...well, with a few exceptions. I know its painful to hear that the emperor has no clothes so I will not go on. Having said the above, I want him to succeed as long as he stays away from European socialism and he at least tries some bipartisan leadership. Otherwise, the only change we'll see is the change left in our pockets P.S. For all you libs out there, spare me the argument that it's not his fault and that Bush was the devil. That sophistry is boring and unproductive. We need solutions and leadership now, or we'll all be selling apples on the corner. |

Show Oldest FirstThis Gitmo discussion is getting out of control. The subject is far too complicated for we armchair political junkies to resolve. It is easy to sit on the beach with our pina colatas and make stategic and tactical judgements. Let the geniuses in the state and defence departments figure it out. Personally, I'd send them home or drop them from the plane on the way or even better put the in one of our fine high security prisons. They can say good bye to special meals, prayer time and soccer games in the yard. They'll get tatooed and lift weights like everyone else. Of course, they'll probably get whacked before the ham sandwiches are servered for lunch.
With regard to the platitudes of American values of fairness and torture applied to these clowns. My take is this. You do what is necessary to protect your family. We haven't been attacked in 8 years which is, I might add, the longest period in the last 4 decades. ---so something must be working. Save the theoretical for your philosophy class. With regard to our standing in the world, The world wants one thing from us-money. The UN is one of the most corrupt entities on the planet. When ever there is trouble in the world, they are willing to hold our coat while we sacrifice our young men. Personally, we ought to get them to pay their parking tickets and throw them the hell out of NY. We need to remain strong and do what is best for our people. Even with that selfish persective, we'll still be the most generous country in history - a generosity that has never been limited to just money. So sit back and pray that our man Barrack learns that we must negotiate from strength and that diplomacy is not a popularity contest like running for president
You never said what you thought of the article/video...?
Understood...I never said that there aren't and weren't terrorists there, I'm only saying that we need to prosecute! (You realize of course these 11 were released under President Bush.)
For you, CBRADIO. (An article I was just reading)
Interpol put out an international security alert Tuesday for 85 alleged terrorists suspected of plotting attacks against Saudi Arabia in the largest single batch of wanted notices ever sent to police agencies worldwide.
Documents profiling the men obtained by The Associated Press in Saudi Arabia show that many are suspected of taking part in planning attacks targeting oil or security installations or provided al-Qaida members with weapons and money. All are believed to be hiding abroad, many in neighboring Yemen.
Saudi authorities believe the men are active members of al-Qaida or local offshoots and are trying to re-establish the terror network in Saudi Arabia after a series of harsh crackdowns in past years. They include 11 who have been released from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay.

Oh..caligo is back...how is Mexico?
I think you couldn't have said it better, Cusa2. And I believe I'm the one who called Shall Shallow1!
Look, Great Escape, I wasn't trying to twist your words and I don't think you're an idiot. I was just pointing out that there never was a plan from the Bush Admin. about Gitmo.
"Because quite frankly I think all of you liberals are sheeple." That's actually pretty funnny. Look, I could say the same about Consevatives and the love affair with Palin. Some liberals are sheep, so are some Conservatives.
"What's wrong with keep Gitmo open and giving them a fair and speedy trial at Gitmo? Instead we should mix them with everyday people? Do you realize these guys are masterminds of propaoganda and brainwashing? What would happen if they were able to agitprop a section of the prision? What happens if these guys get out on Parole? We've now got a whole nother can of worms on our hands."
This is what I'm talking about. Conservatives govern based on fear. Everything you just stated is complete and total speculation. You sound like Dick Cheney!
As far as Gitmo being used as recruitment for al-Qaeda read this article and watch this video. Look, I know you'll say it's just "The Liberal Media" so take it with a grain of salt. Tune out Olbermann but do, however, listen to Matthew Alexander. HERE IS THE PROOF YOU REQUESTED. He's not making this stuff up. He was there...
"Big deal. What, detain them forever? Look, the Bush Admin dropped the ball BIG TIME here. Something had to be done and closing Gitom was the first right step."

"It is this type of ideology that has lost Conservatives the last 2 elections. You are so out of touch with the everyday American. Yeah, I'm a liberal because I don't think we should torture. Oh, and don't forget that I'm a Socialist too. (Same old Conservative smear"
Out of touch with what? The everyday American? Yes I guess I am. Because quite frankly I think all of you liberals are sheeple. You follow the latest trends, what's 'hot'. Thats why you'd rather have a President that would rather hangout with Celebs than War Heros.
"Now I know you don't get it. With no end in sight, wait until the War is over to try them. Nice. Meeanwhile Gitmo goes on fueling the enemy's fire. Well done." LOL. Twist things much? All I said was I do not know why, then gave a possible reason. Unfortunately you had to flip it and try to make me look like an idiot. Bravo for reading comprehension.
Also, do you have any proof that detaining suspected (key word here) terrorist, is what is actually fueling the fire? I highly doubt they are upset about their affiliate sitting in a prision cell. Hell, they encourage each other to strap bombs to themselves and go kill innocent Women & Children.

I agree, prosecute, just don't close Gitmo. Yes, I realize Bush released those terrorists, never said I liked Bush or all of his policies. ;)
It was an interesting read. I am not suprised that the terrorists are using Gitmo as a leverage to recruit more people. Heck, they will use anything they can to gain to numbers.
