The sheep skin is falling off the wolf.

In the last few weeks, we have heard about the disruptive town meetings regarding the health reform bill, which they now call insurance reform, because Obama can’t sell the concept of health reform. Why? - Because we have the best health care in the world. Our problem is that we don’t have adequate oversight on the insurance company/doctor/hospital/drug company relationships, nor do we have competent regulators to prevent the $$billions of fraud. The country, in its sometimes primitive way, gets this and doesn’t want to “throw the baby out with the bath water.” Most of all they don’t want government’s invincible incompetence to make a bad situation intolerable. As a result, we see an emotional response to poor government communications.

Let’s start with the facts. Congress is holding town meetings on a non-existing bill. In fact, there are at least five House proposals and a few Senate ones. No one disagrees that our health care system is broken administratively. We still have the best health care but it does need an administrative overhaul. The studies quoted indicating that we are ranked 37th in the world are all bullshit, statistical garbage. It is subjective, makes assumptions that are difficult to correlate, and like many World Health Organization (WHO)/ UN activities, politically loaded. Where do affluent sick come to get treated? Here!!! When Obama talks about our paying more than other countries for health care, he forgets to add we don’t have a 80% tax rate… yet

The emotion, however, isn’t exclusively driven by the health bill. It is driven by the irresponsible government spending that is scaring even the people in the country who can’t add. What is a trillion? A trillion is counting to a million, and then doing again a million times. A deficit is when you spend more then you earn. A debt is the money you borrow to cover the deficit. I make these distinctions because people confuse the two concepts. The national debt at the end of the Bush administration was $10 trillion. Since Obama took office we added approximately $1.3 trillion to the deficit which will be added to the debt. It is forecasted that Obama programs, if enacted, will add another $10 to $20 trillion in the next decade. Enough of the arithmetic!

The big mistake that Liberals make is they underestimate the public’s independence. Since liberal power comes from a dependent constituency, they are compelled to giving out fish rather then to teach fishing. Only a small portion of the country is sitting around waiting for government to send them an entitlement check. This country has never been not about entitlements. Once you leave the big cities, you see that the country is truly conservative. We don’t want big government. We take care of ourselves, and are the most generous in the world when it comes to caring for others. The idea of a massive government is revolting to most Americans.

Here is the real problem. People didn’t really understand the Stimulus Bill but were upset that over $700 billion was approved, and no one in Congress admittedly read it. – A bill with back-ended spending to help with re-election in 2010, and loaded with pork. Strike one!

Next came the “Cap and Trade Bill,” which the public understood less, but couldn’t understand how trading carbon credits helped global warming. The economy is in the shithouse, and Obama is spending billions on a theoretical idea. Strike two!

Now, health care reform. This is personal! They published proposals for a House bill loaded with all kinds of socialistic dodo; like government oversight on patient care, end of life interference, a $500 billion cut back on Medicare, and coverage for the 40+ million American without health insurance. Obama then thought he could mesmerize the country with his rhetoric, and his promise to fix everything for everyone, and be deficit neutral… which is “corporate speak” for free. The CBO(congressional budget office), which is the fiscal watch dog for the Congress, then rained on his parade, and published a report that the real cost was in the trillions.

The insanity is Obama sent his Democratic House and Senate members out to defend something that no one really understood. The reason Obama was pushing so hard to get a bill it passed before the August recess was that he realized once the people read this trash, they would revolt... and revolt they did.

The consequence was that it opened Pandora’s Box and exposed Obama’s plan for massive government control! You can’t take over one-sixth of the economy, and not expose your socialistic intentions. Health care is personal. Everyone agrees we need to fix things but not with the incompetent bureaucrats.
Here are the major issues:
• Coverage - the ability to get insurance regardless of pre-existing conditions.
• Portability -the ability to move your insurance when changing or losing your job.
• Billing-we need to fix the insurance/doctor/hospital/drug company relationship.
• Fraud - tens of billions a stolen from Medicare/Medicaid annually.
• The millions of Americans who can afford health insurance but choose not to buy it.

These things can be accomplished without creating a monstrous bureaucracy. Bring the leaders of these industries together. Threaten a government take over. Then, put them in a room and lock the door. Next, put all the health care lobbyists in a cage and drop them into the Atlantic Ocean. Now, that is a good start. Next, all that is needed is for the government to buy lunch and provide air mattresses for sleeping. Eventually something constructive will get done.

Obama popularity is dropping a like a brick. Previously, it was just his policies. But now, the country realizes the consequences of giving a young, inexperienced, community organizer with questionable political ties, the biggest job in the world. His professorial rhetoric is impeccable. Unfortunately, academics teach because they don’t have the skills or common sense to do.

In all fairness, Obama’s biggest, strategic mistake was to turnover the implementation of his ideas to Comrades Pelosi and Dirty Harry Ried. Obama is placating the far left of his party. Even Bill Clinton realized that getting things done requires a move to the middle.

I am excited that the country is speaking out. Obama needs to be careful about demonizing or belittling the town-meeting protesters. He also has to be careful about his “turn-in your neighbor email program.” Also, he has to stop running these staged town meetings loaded with his disciples. They are transparent and insulting. If he doesn’t seek out bipartisan support, if he doesn’t show some respect for the worried citizens, if he doesn’t stop sending out the union goons and Acorn felons to limit freedom of speech, he will end up a lame duck president before end of his first year. The sheep skin is falling off the wolf.

I'm an American that loves this country as much as you do. I just don't happen to agree with the same ideals as you do..it doesn't make me a socialist or a fascist.

Nobody is questioning your love of this country. Fascism and socialism are economic philosophies in additional political ones. I agree with you on the greed aspect look what the UAW's greed did to the auto industry.

As an avowed capitalist, my take is this. If you are an entrepreneur, and you start a business and risk your own capital, your rewards should be not limited. If you are a hired gun, i.e., a corporate guy who simply went to the right school or daddy gave you a leg up and got hired as a CEO of some large entity then your compensation should be 100 % linked to your performance- but in a reasonable way. There is an old boy's club that perpetuates this mediocracy. Nobody should ever be rewarded for not performing. If you fail you walk the plank like the sceretary who gets 2 weeks severence. These golden parachutes should be outlawed. Part of the solution is to allow the small stockholder a bigger voice in the compensation of the professional managers, or better yet. hold the director WHO approve these outrageous compensation packages accountable. There should be stricter fiduciary rules for directors.

Sorry..too many of these people are way overpaid. No, I don't think the government should control what one makes, but I also think that common sense has gone by the wayside when you look at the salaries of some of these people. Stop with the fascism, socialism crap..it's getting old. I'm an American that loves this country as much as you do. I just don't happen to agree with the same ideals as you do..it doesn't make me a socialist or a fascist. I'm not against people being rewarded for doing their jobs, but some of these salaries and compensation packages are outrageous. If your so worried about costs being passed on to the consumer..take a look at one of the number one reasons..greed.

I guess these businesses wouldn't have to pass on so much cost to the consumers if they weren't paying their CEO's enormous amounts of money that they truly don't deserve.

Wow that’s the type of class warfare I expected. Who are you to determine who deserves what? I have a suggestion; look up capitalism and free-market principles. I guess you feel the government should control who makes what. The next thing you should look up is fascism.

Oh..I know..you all hate Obama and hate that he's president. Well you know what...I felt a similar pain for 8 yrs and it's finally over...and I'm loving it. I to remember when any one that disagreed with the Bush administration was called unpatriotic ..sucks doesn't it?
I'm a conservative there are a lot of things that President Bush’s administration did that I didn’t agree with. He was far from being a true conservative but he was the closest thing to a conservative at the time. Labels don’t bother me at all; so since I believe the current administration is not doing its job to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” call me whatever you like. Read up on Marx and you will see what a progressive income tax is, and to quote Barrack Hussein Obama “you can put lipstick on a pig.” Cap and Trade will generate additional cost to businesses which they will have to pass on to the consumer. My question is that if Cap & Trade ever finds its way to being a law, who are you going to cry about when you electric bill go up? Who will be to blame when businesses pass the cost onto the consumer causing the prices to increase? Can’t blame bush for that one. Combine that with the inflation because they are printing money to buy our own debt and this will hurt the “little guy.” If I’m wrong, please tell me how Cap and trade will benefit the economy? Finally the Democrats have full control over congress (as Ryan pointed out in an earlier article) if these programs are so great why are they even having trouble selling it to their own?

The more we know the scarier it gets

I wonder what effect it will have on the economy when people have less expendable incomes. What really is sad is carter combined three government agencies to create the Department of Energy back in the 70s to move us of dependence on foreign sources for energy. Reagan started building nuclear power plants and they stopped after a few. If they were serious about clean inexpensive energy they would have used some of that stimulus money to build some power plants instead of going to all those special interest.
